RJ-45 to D-SUB CAN-bus Communication Cable

An Energy storage system which can protect, monitor and control energy efficiently is very important to build and maintain a safe, reliable and easy-to-use system. A words leading Energy management Company who specializes in several industries such as marine, automotive and renewable energy designed their Energy storage system with Amphenol LTW Circular connector to make the power connection between their device, a protecting, monitoring and controlling a battery system and their marine displays.

This energy management system is the safety and control unit of the battery system in the range of 12 V to 96 V. It protects the connected battery modules against over-charging, over-discharging, over-temperature, under-temperature and controls the balancing of the battery cells. Besides a safety function, the monitors and tracks other important parameters to give insight in the battery status and energy consumption. The integrated DC distribution, fuse holders and safety contactor make it easy to install and require less cables and external equipment.

The communication connections between the batteries and system can be either with economical RJ45 cables or more robust M12 cables. Up to 96 V both options are available. The M12 connectors integrate an interlock loop to monitor connections. This interlock can be used to switch of the internal safety contactor hardwired by an external emergency button. The device can also be connected to marine displays through the RJ-45 to D-SUB CAN-bus communication cable. Displays would be used to monitor the battery information. Through their energy management system, main values, like voltage, current and State-Of-Charge can be viewed and logged to a file. Moreover, detailed battery information can be shown such as cell voltages, all temperature sensor, firmware version etc. Besides this information also history values and stored events can be read from the management system. To create more flexibility, settings can be configured, for example CAN-Bus protocol selection or adding a function to a dedicated output.
